New Year's Eve tradition

Just wondering...In the Boston area a huge tradition on New Years Eve is to eat Chinese Food. Orders for take out are placed like a week ahead of time or more. Don't even think about trying to get a reservation at any Chinese place if you wait and call on 12/31. No way!! They're all booked up.
Does this happen anywhere else in the country? Or do other areas have similar traditions but for different foods?

    1. In New Jersey growing up you couldn't find a seat in a Chinese restaurant or a movie theatre on Christmas night.

        1. That's not just New Jersey. It's a running joke that you'll meet every member of the local Jewish community in a Chinese restaurant or movie theater on Christmas. That's held true for every community up and down the East Coast that I've lived in, whether it had a large or small Jewish population.

This is a venerated, time-honored Jewish tadition. LOL.

Boston area natives eat Chinese on NYE, not on Christmas. We do this in place of the hoppin john, of the south, or the pork/sauerkraut of the midwest. Not sure why, but Chinese on NYE has been a custom here for as long as I can remember.
WE had our take out order placed on SAturday, and I picked it up early Sunday evening. The lines for take out were out the door!
