Best Indian Market in Triagle

We usually go to the World Market on Hillsborough street in between Cary and Raleigh, but we're wondering if people know of any particularly good Indian markets in the Triangle.

Thanks!

Well if you just carry on a couple of miles towards Cary, you'll find Chatham Square (just past the intersection with Maynard Road). There are a couple of different ones there. Patel Brothers is on the Maynard Road side of the shopping center. I usually go to the Triangle Indian Market. If you continue towards Cary, you'll see it on the left side of Chatham Street, looking out onto the parking lot of the shopping center.

I second this. The best Indian markets are in Cary. It seems like there're a dozen of them, all independents.

I'd actually go so far as say I can think of no Indian Markets of any consequence outside of those mentioned in Cary.

There is a small Indian market in Durham behind Pier One near the Kmart in the South Square area. It may not be "of any consequence", but Durhamites who don't want to haul off to Cary will be able to find the basics. There is also an African grocery store in the same strip mall which has some pretty funky stuff.

Actually, there are three Indian grocery stroes in Durham. The one you mention, Spice Bazaar, which is in the litte shopping center in front of the Super Target where Spartacus restaruant is, and the third is on Hwy. 55 in the shopping center where Thai Lana and Sarah's empinadas are. I have found all 3 of these to be comparable to the stores in Cary. The only-- albeit substantial-- advantage of going to the stores around Chatham Square is the ability to stop in at cool Breeze afterwards for some truely authentic Indian street food.

Wow, Spice Bazaar actually exists? More than once since I moved here I tried to go there and found it unoccupied. Very strange.

I stand corrected on my assertions about Cary's monopoly and am happy that I don't have to trek so far for goodies.

Cary has a lot of great markets (and yes, you can swing into Cool Breeze afterwards), but I would also point out that the best customer service I've ever experienced is at VGS...they have a large market on 55 (near Thai Lanna, Tandoor Indian Restuarant). They are always helpful, will order things if they don't have them, and they have a good variety of fish. They also have a location in Morrisville near the Tower Restuarant.

What's VGS?, I'd be thrilled to go nearby. I've run out of dal, & my stuff is old. I need to toss it & get some fresh spices.
