Did you try Minoya in Plano (Independence and Parker)? I'm pretty sure they carry mochi. That's the only Japanese store I shop at in Metroplex.

I saw your posting about Nanami, but my hairdresser (Japanese) told me a couple of months ago Nanami isn't in business anymore (the owners took off). Things are less expensive at Minoya anyway.

I've gotten mochi (with red bean filling) at the asian grocery on Greenville, just north of Beltline. It's towards the front of the store, just beyond the cash registers, to the right as you walk in.

There are plenty of mochi ice cream in Asia World Market on Legacy / 75. Average price around $4 to $5 a box of 6 or 10 pieces. But I don't think it tastes as good as the one from Hawaii.

The Hawaiian brand I've seen is called Bubbies and it's available at Central Market in Dallas.

Yes, Bubbies is available @ Central Market and it is THE brand to get for mochi ice cream. The stuff at the asian markets is very mediocre.
