Cheese Fondue recipe for kids

Has anyone made a cheddar-based fondue? We are going to have the traditional version for the adults, but I wanted to make one for the kids. Last time I tried to tone down the Gruyere recipe, the kids didn't like it and the adults didn't like it as much so my new tactic is to make two types.

  1. I've done it like a mac and cheese sauce--make a bechamel and add cheddar--for kids. What they really like is the velveeta but I won't do that.

    1. Heehee. We had a fondue dinner one time, and my little cousin, aged 7 at the time, sniffed a bit of bread on the fork that had been dipped in the cheese and declared "Smells like feet." He then ate it quite happily.

      There are cheddar cheese recipes using apple cider that I think kids would like. Serve it with apples, tiny roasted potatoes, and cocktail franks that have been basted with barbecue sauce before broiling. Very tasty. I will try to find the recipe I used and post it...

      1. I'm with Chowser. Mac & cheese sauce- heavy on the bechamel, light on the cheddar.

        1. I think the kids would rather have caramel or chocolate fondue with fruit. Bet the adults would sneak over to the kiddy table too.
