Pittsburgh Steak Company

So, I went to the Pittsburgh Steak Company last night. This used to be one of my favorite places for a reasonably priced, reliably good (not amazing, but solidly good) steak with good service. But I haven't been in 2 years or so since I left Pennsylvania. What happened?!

The prices seem to have gone up from what I remember, which wasn't that big of a deal, still reasonable. But the main issue was the service. Our food took for ever and when it did come everything was cold and had clearly been sitting for a while, i had to ask 3 times for a refil on my drink, it took about 30 minutes to pay the bill...just generally awfull. Some of the slack was picked up by servers at ajoining sections (our salad plates cleared, bill picked up etc), so I suspect (fingers crossed) that it may have just been our particular waitress. But...the food wasn't as great as I remember either. The salad was mostly chunks of chopped iceberg with some limp pieces of romaine thrown in and one lonely little grape tomato. My SO's prime rib was almost mushy in texture and tasted like nothing but salt instead of meaty goodness, the rice pilaf was also overwhelmingly salty. My steak was good, but slightly overcooked, which has NEVER happened to me there.

The restaurant wasn't packed, but it wasn't dead either, so there didn't seem to be any excuse for that kind of performance. Has one of my old stand-bys for a decent steak when visiting my family gone that far downhill?

  1. We went once and I couldn't tell you how my steak tasted, as the restaurant was so full of cigarette smoke I had to hold my breath while I ate. We will not be going back when there are too many other good places to get a steak in the Burgh.

How sad...I'm bummed now. So what are your recommendations for other "other good places to get a steak in the Burgh"? Keep in mind relatively cheap (for a steak) and my family lives in Overbook (almost the south hills) so nothing too much of hike from there.

    2. I would just go to Tessaro's in Bloomfield.
