Freezing Smoked Meats

pacz Dec 28, 2006 07:29 PM

I received a gift of smoked meats; ham, bacon, andouille sausage, chorizo and chicken breasts. I know that I can freeze the bacon, but can I freeze the other meats? I wnt to the web-site where they are from, but there is no info on this. Also, if they can't be frozen, how long will they last?

Thanks for your help!

Thank you all, into the freezer they will go!

This may not readily apply in your case, but I had a smoked turkey breast and some smoked pork that I sliced into individual servings (well wrapped), froze, and thawed for sandwiches - did fine.

I've frozen them before and they do fine, as long as you make sure they're as air-tight as possible. They lost a little flavor/texture, but not that much.

Although since they're smoked, they'll keep a pretty long time without freezing. I would think they'd probably be good for a couple of weeks, since smoking is a preservative method.

I have smoked venison sausage in the freezer, and it holds up very well. I only pull out a link or two at a time, and it is always yummy!
