Restaurants by Staples Center

Hi All,

I was hoping to get some recommendations of some restaurants by the Staples Center in downtown LA. I'll be catching a basketball game with some friends and wanted to eat well afterwards. Any suggestions that you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Pantry is the closest, within walking distance
    Ciudad is good
You might want to go to McCormicks and Schmitts if the game ends late enough for their happy hour items, I think after 9:00 p.m.

As much as I love The Pantry, don't expect much from their steaks, I think they've gone downhill-probably a lower grade and they're tough(or the knives aren't sharp). Maybe the lamb chops or pork chops are OK and the hamburger steak is pretty good.

Also sometimes their parking attendant will give you a break on the parking for the event-like $10.

Liberty Grill is also walking distance; good homey food, not too expensive. Lots of TVs.

J Restaurant & LOunge, relatively close from what I remember. Though the food wasn't my favorite, I like the space a great deal.

Redwood Bar & Grill, though not walking I don't think. But they do serve late. And it's priate themed!

Roy's is nearby on Fig, sushi, Pan-Asian. Fruity cocktails. Great desserts.

I agree with Ciudad, too; but avoid Nick & Stef's at all cost. Mc & Scmick's is good enough for happy hour, too.

I think Zucca is relatively close.

On the upscale side, Blue Velvet is at most a five minute drive. Search this site for some positive reviews.

The Palm is really close, about a block to the east, actually the parking structure behind the palm is a temporary Staples parking lot.

Palm is a quality steak house, no pleasant or unpleasant surprises. Never had a problem or a bad meal there, very good steak house. Expensive. Good wines. Great place to meet before the game, if you not buying.

After the game, your choices are limited. You could try Pacific Dining Car on 6th just West of the 101.

Dining car will also shuttle you to and from the game.
