Non-Alcoholic Cocktails for New Years?

Looking forward to a baby-boom in 2007, half my female guests on New Year's Eve are pregnant...

Any ideas for fancy non-alcoholic cocktails that won't make the moms-to-be feel like they're being left out of the festivities?

    1. Ha- ok, first off the obvious martinellis sparkling cider for champagne.

Sprite + Pinapple Juice + Grenadine makes a great drink as well.

        1. Agua Frescas would be good! You can do any kind of fruit with these; pineapple would be really good, I think. Here's an example of a recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recip... When I made them, I used fresh raspberries, lime juice, and a little bit of honey, but you could use frozen berries too.

This drink was posted a while back, and I've always wanted to try it.

          Fresco

          Ice
          4 ounces club soda
          1 1/2 ounces peach nectar
          1 ounce cranberry juice
          3/4 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
          1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
          1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
          2 dashes of Angostura bitters
          2 thyme sprigs

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except 1 thyme sprig and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled glass and garnish with the remaining thyme.

          Simple Syrup
          MAKES ABOUT 1 1/2 CUPS
In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a boil; simmer until the sugar is dissolved, 3 minutes. The syrup can be refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.

            1. You can make pina coladas and such without alcohol in them, even sugar/salt the rim and they won't feel left out.

                1. my favorite party drink:

                  1 liter ginger ale
1 can of limeade frozen concentrate
                  2 limes, sliced
                  1 bunch of mint, chiffonade
                  1 bag of ice

                  super easy and very refreshing

                    1. If you live near a Trader Joe's, they sell a bunch of sparkling juices that are great and festive -- blueberry, cranberry, apple, and pomegranate. My favorite is the pomegranate -- it has a lot of black currant in it as well. Alternatively, I'd go for old fashioned Shirley Temples.

                        1. AAA puts out a book of non-alcoholic drink recipes. you can find it here:

i forgot to post the recipe for one of my favorites:

                              The San Francisco, TGI Friday's

2 oz. sweet and sour mix
                              2 oz. Rose’s lime juice
                              1 oz. cherry syrup
                              sparkling soda

Fill tall glass with ice. Add first three ingredients. Top with soda. Serves 1.

                              • Thanks for all the terrific ideas! It'll be hard to choose!

                                  1. Don't laugh, but I love shirley temples, and make them for kids and adults alike. Never a drop left in the glass. Serve them in champagne flutes.

                                      1. YAY Shirley Temples! The most underrated drink of all time. We drink lots of spritzers, seltzer + juice of your choice. Pomegranate cocktails with SanPellegrino soda, martinelli's or orange juice are on the top of the list this year.

Here are some cocktails from Macy's Cookbook published in 1932.

                                        White Grape Juice
These cocktails are mixed as they are served. Arrange a tray with iced white grape juice, cocktail glasses, ice cubes and carbonated water. Half fill the cocktail glasses with grape juice. Add ice. Fill with carbonated water. A white seedless grape of the canned variety may be added to each glass.

                                        Grapefruit and Prune
Squeeze enough grapefruit to make 2 cups. Add 1 cup of prune juice. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of honey depending on the sweetness of the grapefruit. Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice until the shaker is frosty. Serve immediately. A green minted cherry adds to the attractiveness of this cocktail. Makes 8 cocktails.

                                        Cranberry Cocktail
Add 4 C cranberries to 4 C boiling water together with 4 whole cloves and a thin slice of lemon peel. Cook slowly 15 minutes crushing the berries as they cook. Add 3/4 C of sugar. Cook 5 minutes. Strain through a fine meshed wire sieve. Cool and keep in refrigerator. When serving shake in a cocktail shaker with ice. For variety the white of an unbeaten egg may be added to 1 pint of the cranberry juice. Shake with ice in a cocktail shaker. This cocktail when poured into the glasses will have white foam decorating the top of the red liquid.

                                        Grape Juice Cocktail
2 C grape juice, 1 C orange juice, 1 T lemon juice, 2 whole cloves, 1 thin slice of lemon peel. Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice. Serve in cocktail glasses. Decorate with a maraschino cherry. Makes 8 cocktails.

                                        Sauerkraut Juice
One pint sauerkraut juice, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1/8 tsp paprika, 1/8 tsp salt. Shake with ice in a cocktail shaker. Serve immediately. A pickled onion or a stuffed olive may be added to each glass when served. Makes 6 cocktails.

                                          1. don't forget the fancy polynesian drinks. pina coladas taste just as good without alcohol, blended with coconut icecream and topped off with unbrella, chunk of pineapple and a cherry!! NewYears gone but spring is coming.
