Recs for lunch with my aunts.

Little Cupcake Dec 27, 2006 06:33 PM

Hi Everyone,

My aunts are incredibly picky about restaurants, partly because one aunt is a great cook. I need an inexpensive restaurant that isn't a total dive. Bonus points if it's located in Midtown or the UES.

Requirements:

* Under $10 for lunch
* good service- one Aunt gets really ticked off by rude waiters
* No Italian

Thanks!

    Take them to JG Melon for an amazing burger!

      You can do Menchanko-Tei on W 55th st. There is also a branch on E45th which for some reason has better food, but maybe a bit divey for your aunt. 55th street location's food is still very good, it's in a posher neighborhood and has a nicer-looking dining room.

        Is that "under $10" supposed to cover everything, i.e., food, drinks, tax & tip?

          It's pushing the midtown..but what about Chez Laurence, 245 Madison Ave, New York 10016
          At 38th St.

            Thanks for the recs so far.

            RGR- I meant under $10 per entree, tax & tip not included.

              That being the case, why not consider going for one of the $25 3-course prix-fixes offered by a number of upscale restaurants. One of my favorites is Fleur de Sel. Delicious French (not Italian) cuisine. Professional service; ergo, no rude waiters. Small space with attractive contemporary decor, so definitely not a dive. No bonus points, however, because it's on 20th St., b/t 5th & B'way.
