If you contact the Suffolk County Water Authority, found here:

they'll provide you with the results of the most recent tests. I'm sure they're not better/worse than the rest of the tri-state area. I believe that most of the area is chlorinated, if not all. Chlorinated water is what it is. Safe from a bacterial perspective, but not that wonderful tasting. A filter helps.
