Passionfish in Pacific Grove - incredible brussels sprout salad

Had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner at Passionfish -- great food all around, but the absolute highlight for me was the brussels sprouts salad.

Thinly shaved brussels sprouts, warm concord grapes, diced korobuta ham, and shavings of ricotta salata. The combination of the grapes and the sprouts was incredible -- the sweetness of the grapes brought out all the subtle sweetness of the sprouts, and melded perfectly with the sprouts' slight bitterness. The tastes didn't contrast -- they melded into an unified taste that transcended the sum of its parts.

The ham and ricotta salata added some nice rich saltiness, but they weren't the stars here.

Go to Passionfish while this is still on the menu!

  1. I grew up in Monterey and this is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I am a brussel sprout fiend in so far you make me envious describing this dish! Thanks for reporting!

Was the salad served warm and vinagrette based?

    1. The good news is that this was still on the menu when we went last month. I never really like brussel sprouts before, but I'm a convert now!

      1. I had it the other day and am trying to recreate it tonight. Grapes sitting in brine from allrecipes now. We shall see!
