The flavor would be totally different. Marsala is much closer to sherry.

You can try another sweet wine like Madeira.

I ended up using sherry. It turned out okay, but I'm too much of an amature cook to improvise as much as I did. It was a little bland (I used the sherry, mushrooms, lemon juice, butter, salt, and pepper).

Try adding angustura bitters to the sherry. It's the bitters/herbs in marsala that make it so different and flavorful. Let us know how it turns out.
