great restaurants near joe's pub?

twentyoystahs Dec 26, 2006 07:18 PM

We're visiting NYC this Sat; & going to a show at Joe's pub. Any recs on great spots in walking distance? Looking for somewhere more on the casual side, Italian would be great (loved Lupa), open to just about anything though --ideally somewhere where we could still make a rez (just for 2). TIA.

There's a little french bistro called Jules on St Mark's place where it is not too expensive and the food is more than okay. There is also live jazz.

Grand Sichuan St. Marks is a block away. They'll take reservations for two, I think, and if so, it's definitely advisable. You can have a really good dinner if you stick to Sichuan and Hunan food there.

Il Buco is good for casual Italian.

I like Indochine, and it's festive.

Otto is not too far away at 5th Ave. & 8th St. It's another Batali joint with good pizzas, great pastas, and outstanding gelato. I don't know if they take reservations for 2, but if you're going early before the show, you should be OK.

I second Five Points, great place. Indochine is also nice if you're up for a tropical vibe with great cocktails. Also, I'm a fan of Chinatown Brasserie in the old Time Cafe space- the bar downstairs is really cool.
