Late night (24h) coffee or nice 'chill' spots

dankind Dec 24, 2006 03:47 AM

I know there's a 24h Second Cup on Yonge around St Claire, and 7west is south of that... are there any other similar places that have a nice atmosphere where you can just get coffee/whatever and relax all night around downtown?

You might find what you're looking for at the Now Mag 24hr Toronto site:

Are you serious about Fran's having good food? I've never had anything there that I would consider anything beyond mediocre (at best). Maybe I'm ordering the wrong items off the menu.

no your not ordering anything wrong. Cheap it is, and for a student, it tastes better then caf food, but oh god, the last time i was forced to eat there out of desperation I literally had to force the meal down

Well it's important to point out that I'm a vegetarian so I'm not speaking for the whole menu but the veggie chili, the veggie burger and the stir fry. For a 24hr place to chill and hang out it fits the bill for me.

As for the rest of these comments, the request was for a chill spot not a gourmet meal and I assure you I'm far from being a student but I really appreciate your assuming such.

LOL about the cat food! OK, well, let's assume that Moonbeam is a student and cut him/her some slack. :)

There are many people that enjoy food more bland, more well done and with grease to help it go down. Tons of salt, tons of sugar, or everything fried.

This is what makes the world go 'round.

Fran's is not gourmet. It is what it is and it has been that for decades.

I agree, and I definetly sometimes just want greasy food too.. the thing about frans is at one point, it was pretty good, but at least on my recent visits, it has gone significantly down hill

              Chowhound does have a manifesto:

No matter what makes the world go 'round, I can't reconcile why this board exists with rec's for Fran's or Canyon Creek etc. That said, Toronto does sorely lack for 24 hr places where someone can "relax all night", as was the request.

              CK (proud food snob

ps. I'd go to Vesta Lunch over Fran's any day, but I wouldn't lounge in either of them.

CK, Seriously, have you ever had the double pork chop at Canyon Creek or does being a food snob simply mean that you cannot cross the threshold of a chain?

If you are able to eat at a chain, I challenge you.

There's also a fran's on College just west of Yonge...that's also open 24 hours and is more like a diner. They aren't really lounges, but 7 West on Charles Street just west of Yonge is really good! Also Just Desserts at Wellesley is a coffee house/bar and open late...

                hope it helps....
