Best Indian in New Haven

  • 4

I'm looking for an authentic, affordable Indian restaurant in New Haven. Someplace that I can impress my New York friends with / convince them that I'm not crazy for moving to New Haven.

I'm especially fond of South Indian (dosa, etc.)

Is this possible?

Thanks.

  1. The folks that run this forum have decided to only include Fairfield County on the tri-state board. New Haven will be found on the New England board. Do a search there and you will find a few posts about Indian food in New Haven.

I don't think you should be trying to impress your friends from New York if they think you are crazy for moving to New Haven. If your friends have such an arrogant attitude you are better off trying to make new friends.

Beleive me, some of the best food in CT is found in tiny working class hole in the walls and somebody with an attitude like that will never appreciate that wonderful food.

In New Haven you have easy access to the city. And you have access to many of CT’s great chowtowns, Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport, Hartford, Waterbury.... There is a lot of unexplored territory out there just waiting for you. Jim Leff was recently in your area on his chow tour check out #35 and #36. Here is a quote from his report chow tour dispatch #36, “South-central Connecticut is like a ride—one ought to be charged just to enter the region. Why don’t more New Yorkers ply through here to recontact with the sort of proud pizza heritage we’ve so utterly lost?”

      1. swagat in west haven for some traditional south indian.. stuff you might not otherwise find at your standard indian joint.

        1. Thali will blow them away. I ate at Sham in NYC a few times and Thali is its equal or better.
