Tacos Baja Ensenada (Review w/ PICS!)

On Tuesday my brother, cousin, and I made the pilgrimage from the South Bay to Tacos Baja Ensenada in East LA for the famous tacos. All I have to say is... WOW!!! These tacos were truly amazing and without question the best I've ever had. The fish was very soft and fresh, and the batter-to-fish ratio was perfect. The tortillas used for the tacos were also nice and warm. The sauce used was not overpowering and complimented the cabbage and fish very well.

I also tried the fish ceviche. It was even more amazing than the tacos, which is no doubt a tall order. My cousin, who has been to Mexico many many times, said that it was just as good as the ceviche he has sampled there.

Conclusion: Tacos Baja Ensenada has entered my top tier of restaurants. If you have never been, I HIGHLY recommend you go. It is worth every minute in traffic.

  1. I enjoyed your post, young_chower, and I can feel your enthusiasm dancing all over the page! I agree with everything you say about (endearingly known as) TBE!

    The tacos are SO delish, the ceviche is amazingly fresh as you have mentioned, and the owners are extremely friendly and generous. Did you try their horchata? I think it is one of the best I know. Did you try the yellow peppers soaked in the red pepper spice? I just love these!

    This is a wonderful place, and again, I thank Chowhound for this great find!

    1. If you guys like fish tacos you should also try out El Taco Nazo. There are several in the la/oc area with fantastic fish tacos. Maybe better than this place and cheaper. Make sure you get the rosted chiles that come on the side. Some of the restaraunts have little cut up cucumbers in lime in chile sauce tooo. They're very spicy and great.

      1. Had lunch at TBE yesterday, and tried their new jumbo shrimp and fish on a flour tortilla taco. It's pretty good, but I think I still like their regular fish tacos the best. (The corn tortillas they use are really nice, and have just the right amount of chew.) This place really is a gem.

          Hello, David! I also tried their shrimp taco -- after having had my first fish taco -- and while I enjoyed it, I went right back to the fish taco, exactly as "Mama" serves it with all the toppings. It's the fish taco here that is really extraordinary.

          Have you tried the ceviche? It is also really good and so fresh! I think I will have a fish taco and a cup of ceviche doused in fresh lime juice next time!

            Agree. I had the combo one last time...don't think I'm gonna stray from the fish tacos and ceviche...sooo good...great photos

        2. Rock and Roll . . . I'm down with this place, I think I first caught on to it through Jonathan Gold's book COUNTER INTELLIGENCE. I haven't been all around the menu, but I surely dig the straight up fish tacos with hot sauce. Good find, glad you enjoyed it!
