Vegetarian at Lotus of Siam

I had a meal there earlier in the year that was outstanding . . . larb, sea bass, sour sausage . . .

Anyway, I'll be going there again this week, but this time with my family, most of which is vegetarian. Any particular recommendations for dishes, either things already on the menu or things that they "translate" well?

  1. The best thing to do is to ask. Many of the dishes that usually feature meat or seafood can work well with tofu or vegetable substitutes. The nam kao tod with tofu substituted for sour sausage works surprisingly well. The vegetable soups are delicious, and there is always a tofu salad (off menu) that has all the tastes of the beef salad minus the protein. The green, red, and mushroom dips on the northern menu are vegetarian.

    Please note that there is fish sauce in many dishes. If this is a problem, you should ask. The kitchen is used to catering to vegetarians; Saipin enjoys it.
