Sharing a ski house with a bunch of friends for New Years......I would love a show stopping main course recipe (someone has already offered to make a beef stew dish for another night). Any advice would be appreciated!!!!!!!

i made a zuni roast chicken with ina garten's parmesean mashed potatoes last spring out in colorado. it was perfect because it didn't cost much and was enough to feed everyone (i used a bigger bird, about 6 or 7 lbs). one of the mornings before we headed out to the hill i made a french toast casserole that kept our bellies warm and happy for the whole morning.

I've always had tremendous success with baked pasta dishes on ski weekends, seems like people just love warm, gooey carb-y things after a day on the slopes. Depending on how many people you're feeding, you can offer 2 different dishes for variety, like maybe a butternut squash lasagna and a baked ziti with sausage or meatballs, or even a pastitsio. Add a salad, some French bread, salumi, a dish of assorted olives... you're set. Other pluses -- very economical and can be made ahead of time and reheated.
