JCC of Manhattan

Has anybody eaten at the JCC of Manhattan recently? I assume they have a cafe or something. I need to take a few kids there for something to eat (or something to take out), if something kid-friendly is available. Tried to find out on their website but couldn't get it to work. I'd prefer dairy, which I'm assuming would be what they serve. Thanks for any information.

  1. They used to have a dairy cafe, but I'm not sure if it's still open. There's supposed to be a place opening nearby called The Chumus Place or something. Any word on that one?

    1. I stopped by;they have a menu with dairy foods like mac & cheese and sandwiches as well as desserts.

      1. Thanks for the feedback. Sandwiches sound perfect. As far as the hummos place, I'd heard about it but haven't seen it. Not sure where it's supposed to be -- Amsterdam at around 79th? Wonder what they'll have in addition to hummos. Can one have an entire establishment dedicated to hummos?

        1. Clarissa,

If it's the same place as in the Village, it's close to having such a menu. I think that other than chumus, it only has Israeli salad! Oh, and if the reviews are true, I have to go there ASAP.

          1. Hummus Place is open. It's on Amsterdam at about 75th street on the east side of the street. If you walk plast Shark Bar (while headed north)you've gone too far. It's below street level.

Have you been? Do you know what's on the menu?

Just checked out the menu. Also Googled them (they're one of three Hummos Places) and they get raves from everyone. I don't know how I missed this. I'm going to try it very soon.

            2. Hummos place is not under Orthodox superfision afaik. There is a pizza place on W. 72nd which is just 3 blocks away.

Thanks, but we don't mind not having Orthodox supervision.

                  Clarissa,

Not only is there still a cafe at the JCC, and Hummus Place (which is delish), there's also crumbs right there which is kosher and a great dessert for the kids!

let me know if you need phone numbers or addresses for any of these places...

Thanks -- wound up completely changing the plans and doing something else. I did go check out the Hummus Place recently. Called them for a delivery but it turns out I'm two blocks away from their delivery zone, and they won't come this far. So I haven't tried that place yet.
