Ethos, the Greek restaurant, on 3rd Av., b/t 33rd & 34th Sts., is a favorite place of ours for whole fish. You can make your choice from the pristine assortment displayed on ice at the rear of the dining room. The kitchen will then grill it to perfection, and servers will filet it tableside if that's your preference. Very pleasant taverna-like ambiance. Not sure if they're open Christmas Eve, but definitely worth a call to find out.

Agree, I always get whole fish at Ethos. I have had slightly better luck specifying 'not overdone' though as it tends to be the least bit on the dry side otherwise. Ali Baba is also a good option.

I don't know if Pylos is open, but they'd be a good choice. They don't seem to participate in OpenTable, and there doesn't seem to be any way to get reservations through their website, so call 'em up!
