Xmas Day in New Orleans - what's open?

A fellow chowhound and I are chowing our way through New Orleans from Dec 24 to Jan 31. There have been some great posts and I have assembled a list of places we'll be eating at. We are both VERY excited.

The difficulty has been figuring out where to go for Christmas Day since I have found that most places are closed. Would the Vietnamese restaurants be open? We can go with cheap or expensive, fancy or divey, as long as the food is fantastic. Please save us from eating in our hotel restaurant!

  1. Here's a list:

I've never been to any of these places, but I always hear good things about the Rib Room for Christmas day. Tujague's would be interesting, too, probably more for ambience. The Grill Room at the Windsor Court is bound to be fantastic.

    1. Hmmmm. Yes, I saw this list earlier and while there are some great restaurants on the list (Upperline, Nola, Emeril's, Commander's Palace, Galatoire's), many of them aren't open on Christmas day. I will do some more research on the three that you have recommended for Christmas day and see what I find. Thanks!

The ones that are open on Christmas day are marked with CD or CDR.

      2. I have friends who have gone to the Rib Room every year since the 70's. It is a great place for Christmas dinner including excellent turtle soup and prime rib. I would avoid the Grill Room as it is astoundingly overpriced and service is quite slow.

        1. My wife and I will be in NO 26-30 Dec. We've made our list and checked it too damn many times to count.

          Bon appetit!
