Fine dining in West Covina?

  • 12
  • Share

I'd like to get my boss and his wife a gift certificate to a nice restaurant in West Covina, but I don't think they're very adventurous eaters.

Any ideas for good restaurants that might potentially have gift certificates?

I saw a recommendation for Off Citrus, wondering if anyone else had other ideas.

Thanks Chowhounders!

  1. You must hate your boss. "Nice restaurant in West Covina" is an oxymoron.

Well, it's all relative I suppose.

I would stick with Off Citrus, but then it isn't in West Covina -- it's in Covina.

    2. How about the Green Street or whatever that Brazillian BBQ place is called? People seem to like it. I don't...but others rave about it.

      1. funny, i thought it was an oxymoron too! hee.

the Brazilian place is think is Green Field.

        for something different....
I am a graduate of the Collins School for Hotel & Restaurant Mangement at Cal Poly Pomona. They have a full service, student run (trust me on this) lunch and dinner establishment. For dinner, it's pretty cool. You see hard working students prepping your meal and others serving you from start to finish. They do run a tight ship, and I consider it the best kept secret in that area. It has a lovely view high atop a hill.

Otherwise, send them over to somewhere nice in Clarmont. It's not that far away, really.

I was going to suggest Claremont too. It's what, 10 minutes East on the 10?

        2. there's a sushi bar in the vein of nobu or matsuhisa, abe, asanebo, et all, that does all those sorts of dishes but ican't remember the name.

it's pretty darn good, and it's on citrus, called something like Hamakaya or Hawakaya. they also have omakase here too.
caviar and toro tartares all over the place, not too shabby for west covina.

          1. about the best in west covina...i believe it's a chain...elephant bar ...across the street from the mall on vincent. it ain't gourmet...but it's edible...the foo-foo drinks are ok. i gotta believe they have gift certs. i'll tell ya a non-restaurant option and again, not sure they have gift certs - but claro's italian store/deli - as an ex-boss, if someone gave that to me as a gift...i would be appreciative and impressed with the idea. hmmmm what else...yeah...definitely slim pickin's in w. covina

This is SO true. I have tried and tried and tried to find something decent in West Covina for the past year... other than Old World Deli, the Elephant Bar is the only thing that I've found to be decent (and, yes, it is a chain).

To the OP - I guess it depends on how formal your boss is. If they are older (40's-50's), I'd say go with the Off Citrus pick (it's only about a mile or two north of West Covina). If they are younger and more casual, go with the Elephant Bar pick.

            2. interested in Chines or Korean?

              1. I hate to say it, but if they are not adventurous eaters, you may be better off giving them a certificate to one of the many chain restaurants in W. Covina.

                1. How about Tulipano's in Azusa. Close enough.

Tulipano's is wonderful. When I was there, the host owner was so charming. He kissed the hand of all the ladies plus the food is really good.
