Faves at Locke-Ober?

Some friends and I have a reservation for dinner tomorrow night. I especially like fish and seafood, so recs in that direction much appreciated, but I like pork and beef as well. Any good vegetable dishes? Thanks.

I usually make a meal of apps and dessert when I go. In terms of seafood, the finnan haddie and the lobster stew are both delicious, but/and very rich. Plus the biscuits that come with the finnan haddie are warm and amazingly tender. The other soup, gamebird consomme, is basically a luxe take on chicken soup. Amusing and tasty, with delicious potato dumplings, if you're in the mood for that. One thing it's hard for me not to order is the foie gras, which has been blow-your-mind good, every time except one, when the particular piece they served us was a bit gristly. Among the salads, the Bibb lettuce with warm bacon dressing is my fave, but the watercress and goat cheese fritter is good too. Dessert-wise, I think their baked Alaska is the finest in town: they don't dry out the meringue. And of course, the sundae is good. If you're ordering mains plus any other course, prepare for large portions and, since the food is rich, a bit of a coma while digesting. Hope you have a really excellent meal!

If they still have it, the tobacco and rum-smoked salmon is a classic with a very subtle twist. I also love the Clams Casino. And they have a great raw bar. Also, you won't go wrong with the lobster bisque, it's excellent here. But if you like the richness of butter and cream - and the "stew" isn't thick, just buttery, brothy goodness - the fact that lobster stew isn't as common as bisque, and it was justly a historical favorite, the lobster stew is the winner. The other must-have is the pricey (but so-worth-it) Lobster Savannah. Stunning presentation. and another historical and traditional dish. At LO, the meat is taken out, cooked, and plated back in the shell so you don't have to wrestle with it, and cooked in a decadent creamy, sherry-laced cream sauce with sauteed mushrooms and peppers, and finished in the oven with buttered bread crumbs and parmesan.

You asked for seafood recs, though I have to say, everything I've had here has been great. :)

I haven't been in a few years- but the lobster bisque and steak tartar are always must haves for me. I have no idea what i've had for the entrees - as the apps are what stay in my memory! <sigh> time for a return!

Hi, Dover Sole is outstanding. Their signature dish is the Lobster Savannah, and it's great. They will also grill shrimps and scallops and serve with your choice. A favorite spot. Enjoy.
