I agree with the Rosa Mexicano idea, especially the one near Lincoln Center. Ask for a table along the waterfall and they'll enjoy that as well as the food. It's a bit pricey for Mexican but generally I think the quality is good for the price. My daugher is older, but it's been one of her favorites since she was about 10. The octopus there is amazing, as are the ceviches, but will the kids like it? I was a pretty adventurous eater as a child (loved escargot), but this might be too much for some. If you want to stay in that neighborhood, Mama Mexico is across the street. It is allot less serious, with all the usual fare, and a little more low-key (easier to get in) than Rosa Mexicano. All that being said, it probably is a good thing to expose children to all sorts of situations/cuisines at a young age. I have some nephews/nieces who will eat nothing but hot-dogs - breaks a chowhounder's heart.
