Da Andrea - thanks for the rec
The gf and I went to Da Andrea on Friday night for our pasta dinner before the Hot Chocolate 10 miler in Central Park. The restaurant was absolutely fantastic - exactly what the gf was looking for. It had all the West Village charm one could want and the food was outstanding.
We started with the Tigelle, delicious fresh baked bread that could be topped by amazingly fresh parmigana and prosciutto. Although some of the prosciutto pieces were a bit over exposed, the meat was terrific for the most part.
She had the papaerdelle with a spicy sausage ragu and I had the gnocchi in a gorgonzola sauce. The paperdelle was cooked perfectly and the ragu was delicious although slightly salty. The gorgonzola sauce was outstanding; it was not over powering like Il Baggato's version and had enough butter in the sauce to make it smooth.
All in all a great meal and a fantastic place - maybe not a destination but if you're looking for a relaxing dinner in a comfortable atmosphere I'd highly recommend Da Andrea.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I also learned of Da Andrea from this board a few years ago and have enjoyed each visit. I disagree with your comment about it not being a destination spot. In a city filled with overpriced and overhyped restaurants, it is worth the trip to Da Andrea just to enjoy great food and service at reasonable prices. I enjoy the simple things. Next time you take your girlfriend out, try Bianca. You will love their pasta and gnocchi.
