Well, although it can be somewhat touristy, I've always thought the Sea Grill in Rock Center can be magical at Christmas. Most tables have a smashing view of both the ice rink and the Christmas tree, and the food is often surprisingly good. My wife and several of her friends met there during the Christmas season for many years and never had a single complaint.

And it's an easy walk from your Times Square digs...

John's Pizzeria, located in a converted church, on 44th St., b/t B'way & 8th Av., serves pretty decent pizza.

If you want to sample truly excellent pizza during your stay, you will have to leave the Times Square neighborhood. Most Hounds would agree that top of the list is DiFara, in Brooklyn.

A great pizza place in the area is Lazzaro's on 38th between 7th & 8th. Great rectangular, thin crust pizzas with delicious sauce and fresh mozzerella.
