Dungeness crab festival?
I'm from LA, and I would like to thank everyone in advance for a response to this question. San Francisco is known for dungeness crabs. Is there such thing as a dungeness crab festival? If there is one, when is it normally held?

I just had the 3-course crab dinner at Mondo Bistro this weekend in Fort Bragg. Absolutely fantastic! $40 gets you a crab bisque with lots & lots of crab, 2 of the best crab cakes ever, and 1/2 of a good-sized Dungeness crab sautéed in a black bean/ginger/soy sauce.

The Crab Festival at Fort Mason was fubar. They severely underestimated the number of people attending and had run out of everything less than halfway through the event. In spite of this they were still admitting people and were not giving refunds. This was a couple of years ago, so if the event is still happening I would hope thay have their act together.

We went to the first one and it was so inefficiently run that we swore we'd never return. The lines were so long, to park, to get in, to get your "gift," then to buy tickets so you can actually buy food and drinks. The food was so-so at best, most of it a rip. The cooking contests and other "entertainment" were moronic. A waste of time all around. Unless they've improved 1000% and you won't know until you're trapped inside, it's an event to be missed.

The SF Convention & Visitors Bureau did one from 2003 through 2005.
There's one in Fort Bragg in January.
