My kids and I love good horchata. If it's on the menu, we order it! Many places that serve good to excellent food dispense Horchata that comes from a mix. The best IMNHO is at La Super Rica in Santa Barbara. It tastes as if it has some sweetened condensed milk in their recipe. I prefer casual establishments, taco tables & trucks or taquerias to upscale establishments unless they serve really 'authentic' grub made really well! So Chowhounds, for Horchata in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, who reigns supreme?

P.S. I would also appreciate food recs to go with my favorite beverage; especially tacos, tortas, cemitas and more sophisticated dishes such as Chilis en Nogada etc. if really well done! I'm not a fan of Mission Style Burritos, sorry.

TIA!!!

One thing to keep in mind, Mexican Horchata and Central American Horchata are completely different beasts.

That said, I am partial to La Pinata's Horchata, on Alameda.
Don't know if it's mix, or authentic, but I like it. Sweet and uncomplicated.

While we're in Alameda, I really like the horchata at Araujo's on Park St. It's housemade, not from a mix, and has just the right amount of cinnamon (I've had some horchata that tasted like someone dissolved handful of Red Hots in it!).

I had some fantastic Horchata at a small Mexican place in the funky Mall in Halfmoon bay!

The same mall that has the Chai and coffee place right off HI-WAY 1

Its over near the Drug store.

Food is good too.

Way better than 3 Amigos

San Mateo Road/Highway 92 (in strip mall at the corner of Highway 1),

I do make my own but have not found a recipe as good as the one that I mentioned in my original post. I'll try the Rick Bayless version soon and report back. I would still like to find an excellent version when I'm out and about. The quest continues!
