adding stuff to French bread
So I was making 2 loaves of French bread yesterday(I'm new to baking) and I had the notion to roll one of the loaves with pepperoni and provolone. It turned out wonderful and the family loved it.
I was wondering if anyone else adds stuff to their bread, and if so, what do you add?
Bravissimo! Sounds like great bread to me. Maybe you could try strips of roasted red bell peppers and thin slices of fresh mozzarella. A light coating of extra virgin olive oil on the rolled out dough before adding the peppers and cheese may be in order if the home roasted peppers were not stored in a jar with olive oil. Maybe a little bit of the herb mixture called 'Italian Seasoning' might added after the olive oil. Rolled that up and stick in your oven.
If you try my suggestion, tell us about the resulting bread.
I would think both the peppers and fresh mozz would add too much moisture. Sounds delicious, but might make it soggy. You could try diced genoa, I'm thinking of something like lard bread, if you are familar with it, or prosciutto as in prosciutto bread...in both cases, add a fair amount of cracked black pepper...YUM
