Cafe d'Alsace, downhill?

I went to Cafe d'Alsace last Tuesday with a couple of friends and all the food was average or below... I had the burger which was kind of cold and so were the not so crispy fries... We shared a side dish of cauliflower gratin which was too creamy and boring. The pecan/cranberry tart was also unimpressive. Is it going downhill or it was just a bad night or bad choices?
Yes, I agree. If it was ever "uphill" to begin with. Went for dinner a couple of weeks ago - the short rib was so fatty and grisly it had to be sent back. Service was lackluster. Went for brunch last Sunday. Croque Monsieur decent, but substandard french toast (overly eggy and soggy) and service was again, substandard.
I've been a few times in the last few weeks and it does seem like they've become more inconsistent than they used to be. The good things I had were delicious (e.g. wild mushroom ravioli with shaved black truffles) but others were definitely lackluster. I've always had good service, though--from my experiences, I can't complain about that.
I was really disappointed by the burger, though ... way back when, Ed Levine named it as one of his Top Ten Fancypants Burgers (http://www.edlevineeats.com/2006/08/t... I thought the cheese was overwhelming in the worst possible way (whereas I inexplicably loved the equally pungent roquefort on the Spotted Pig's burger), and while mine wasn't cold like yours, it should've been hotter.
At least you still can't miss with the beer selection!
