Del Mar: Ponte Vecchio
Three of us Birthday Girls are planning lunch later this month and Ponte Vecchio on Carmel Valley Road is a place we're considering. In the past, we've gone to Pamplemousse and Firenze - liked both. Is PV in that league? What dishes were outstanding? Please advise; thanks for help. (We don't want to waste calories or money.) EJ
If you go to Trattoria Ponte Vecchio you will be wasting both calories and money. I hate to write this as it seems the place is family run. However, we went a few months ago based on a couple glowing reviews in North County papers. We were disappointed to the point of almost feeling mugged. In other words, the 'reviews' were either shills, ads, or patently false. I will say there is some talent in the kitchen - my gnocchi were extremely good - but the menu of 100 items cripples them to mediocrity (there was something like 15 chicken dishes!).
Comparing Pamplemousse to Ponte Vecchio is apples and oranges. I cannot imagine going to Ponte Vecchio for a special occasion.
