I want to buy my parents (in their 50's) a gift certificate to a nice restaurant in Newport. They don't like anything too ethnic and tend to stick to Italian/American. Please help.

Mamma Luisa is a fantastic restaurant on Thames Street. The restaurant is located in a house, which gives it a cozy, intimate feel. Here's the Web site for it:

I second Momma Luisa's. My wife and I went their for our anniversery two years ago and were very satisfied. Very cozy, homey atmosphere.

Wife, son, his g/f and I went to Mamma's in October and it was a great evening of good food and wine. I certainly recommend the place.

Mamma Luisa's is one of our favorites. Quiet and cozy setting with really good food. I think this will be perfect for your parents.
