Awesome German Chocolate Cake -- Susie Cakes Brentwood
My wife knows that I'm a big fan of German Chocolate Cake (Chocolate cake with coconut icing). We've tried a number of them on the Westside.
Until recently, our favorite had been slices of cakes from Babalu on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica (owner also owns Montana Cafe). Babalu has an excellent dessert selection.
But the slice of German Chocolate Cake from Susie Cakes was unreal. First, the chocolate cake itself was moist and flavorful. The coconut icing was smooth and rich. Best of all, the cake wasn't insuling-pounding sweet.
The cupcakes are also quite good. IMHO, far better than the cupcakes at Sprinkles in Beverly Hills. Sprinkles cupcakes felt heavy and very sweet.
I believe I had three slices of German Chocolate Cake from Susie Cakes in November. Not the best thing for my waistline. We've since limited ourselves to a once a month trip to Susie Cakes. We've yet to make the trip for December! ;-)
