O'Mei

My family used to go to this Szechwan restaurant on El Camino Real in Menlo Park in the 70's and 80's. I know they are no longer there, but I did find an O'Mei Restaurant serving Szechwan cuisine in Santa Cruz. Can someone please let me know if this is the same restaurant but relocated? If so, are they still owned by the same owners and did the food change?

Thanks.

    Hi!
I don't know if they are the same owners. I moved out of SC a while back and it's been a year since I was at O'Mei's. However, it was the best chinese food I'd ever had and my alltime favorite place to go. It's not americanized, very authentic, but good. Definately try the candied cashew appetizers, the roasted red pepper dish, or the seaweed salad. Their sea bass changed my mind about liking sea bass. Now I eat it regularly, wherever I can find it done well. But my favorite dish was their sacha beef with green beans. The outside of the place looks dodgy, like a strip mall. It was SC's best kept secret for a long time. The inside is super elegant, no tacky red and gold decorations. But it's a laid back atmosphere and walking in wearing jean and tee is fine. A very nice wine list as well. Hope this helps. Like I said, I've not made it back in about a year, but went there consistently from '96 till '05 and it was always good. Good luck and let me know if it's still worth the trip.
