For a few years there was a great,dirt-cheap Vietnamese-run seafood joint at the corner of Chicon and East 7th St.The family had a fishing operation in the Gulf and sold their catch at their restaurant. One morning as I drove by the kitchen was engulfed in flames. They never reopened that building.I've heard that they have a new place on Howard Lane.I'm not sure if Howard Lane is in Austin or South Dallas aka Round Rock.Has anyone eaten there? Is the menu the same?Is it run by the same family?

I don't know if it would still considered dirt cheap but yes they have a place on Howard Lane and I35 in the same shopping strip as Kaprow.

I did not get the chance to go by the one on 7th Street but this location is good.

About a week ago, I got a catfish po-boy combo for about $5 bucks and change which was pretty good and a few dollars cheaper than Gene's/Quality Seafood. They had good bread and the fish was fairly good.

I had their gumbo a few months back and it was decent but not great. Basic inexpensive menu with plates with shrimp, oysters, and fish and sandwiches plus gumbo and boudin links.

Captain TJ's Seafood is still going, serving up fried fish and shrimp,
although ownership has changed hands a couple of times over the years.

Alas, the crawfish fried rice has much less crawfish and much more rice these days!
