Viet buffet in Santa Rosa, report
Yes, it's true. A Vietnamese restaurant that has a buffet, I couldn't believe it either. And it was good! It's called My Ha and is on Airport Rd, west side of 101 in a little shopping center on the north side of the street. The staff was friendly, helpful, and efficient. They also have a regular menu with pho, bun, rice plates, etc.. but we went for the buffet. Here is what they offered on a rainy Monday.
hot and sour soup (good hot, but with an off sweet note), decent pork ribs, bland noodles with cabbage and carrots (they called it Viet chow mein), very good salt/pepper shrimp, very good shrimp noodle salad, baby bok choy w/onions, green beans, pork stew with whole egg, beef curry, rice, and a couple other things. Also had a table w/salad, fresh fruit (the pineapple was really tasty) and requisite sauces all for under $8.
Everyone in the place was eating from the buffet or engaged in steaming bowls of pho.
Thanks to chowhound the Mrs. and I stopped in for lunch on our way to Mendocino. Unfortunately, at 1:30mp they were no longer serving the buffet, so we both ordered the Spicy Beef Pho. It came with an unusually large amount of fishcake and strips of beef, and lots and lots of caramelized onions and herbs. All very fresh and tasty, but all the onions gave the broth a bit of a sweet flavor.
We also shared fresh spring rolls and fried squid for apps. The spring rolls were very fresh and tasted great, but they were served with a good-looking peanut sauce that was inexplicably bland. The squid was a bit of a mess though, as the batter was falling off of the squid and had congealed together with all of the other pieces. We managed to finish them all though : >)
