Must ship holiday tamales up to the N.W to some homesick Angelenos...Other than El Cholo, does anybody know of an authentic place that will ship?

  1. Corn Maiden, I think.

    1. Tamara's Tamales: www.tamarastamales.com

You might want to give Liliana's (on Cesar Chavez) and Sandra and Lolita's (on Whittier Blvd.) a call as well -- they do big business in tamales and probably have gotten shipping requests in the past.

      1. Why not ship them yourself? You can go to Mama's Hot Tamales downtown, buy a variety of frozen tamales, and then ship them yourself up to these hungry refugees...

Looks like that's what I'm going to do. Just wanted to save myself some time...

        2. Try Gallegos Mexican Deli on Venice near Centinela in Mar Vista. You MUST try the chicken chili verde tamales (regular size, not cocktail size.) Despite the name, they're not spicy, they have a creamy filling inside that is just to die for. I've turned literally dozens of co-workers onto these tamales. Your friends would love you forever.

Ask for Terry Jr., they may be able to ship them for you.

          1. Corn Maiden does ship, but most of their tamales are modernized versions (I like them a lot, but I haven't tried anything really traditional from there.) From Arizona, there's also a place called El Charro Cafe that makes and ships some good tamales.

Mama's Hot Tamales & Tamara's Tamales will probably ship - but, as glutton noted, if you're in LA you can easily pack your faves in an ice-box with some frozen packs and send it overnight yourself.

            1. I was struggling over what to buy certain family members who live in other parts of the U.S., in addition to others who are very difficult to shop for, for Christmas, but now I know. Thank you, Chowhounds!

I think tamales from Mama's Hot Tamales are perfect gifts. They have 17 different types of tamales from various Latin American countries. Although the tamales are Latin American, I would consider it a So Cal-specific gift, and it's not expensive at all. I have an old menu from Mama's Hot Tamales, which lists tamales at $21 a dozen. If they don't ship, I will simply buy the tamales frozen, package them in boxes using frozen packs, as suggested by AquaW, and overnight it across the country.
