Places to eat outside of the city
My wife and I will be in New Orleans from 26-29 December. We've got a few places in and around the city that we're planning on eating at (we're frequent travelers to NO) but are looking for some places to go to outside of the city.
Any suggestions for day trips with great food?

Mosca's is the most unique food and one of the best just out of New Orleans. It is about 5 miles on the other side of the river from the old (Huey Long) bridge. About 20 minutes from downtown but you need more than a couple to enjoy it as they serve family style and you need their 3 best main dishes. It's my and a lot of locals' favorite restaurant in all of New Orleans. It's in the middle of nowhere in Waggaman on the way to Houma. But nothing else to do there except eat. For a day outing, go to the Northshore.

Lafayette would be a bit of a hike, and not a particularly interesting drive other than across Henderson. I like the idea of an Abita Springs tour. Perhaps some specialty brews at the Abita Brew pub, a walk through the nice park behind the pub, and dinner at Longbranch (or Dakota in Covington or La Provence in Lacombe).
Or, for a less pleasant drive but reality nonetheless, head out east on Hwy 90, get depressed at the effects of past and continuing ineptitude, and eat at one of the best Vietnamese places I have been to, Dong Phuong.
