Tibetian Pears in Town

These Pears are finally coming to town. They are selling them in Flushing now and they have been trying to be shipped to the US for quite a while. The shipment takes 30 days to come over from Tibet to Shenzen and to the US. I just heard of these this weekend and just got a batch to try.

  1. Do you have info on which stores stock it? Any more info on Tibetan pears? pics? TIA.

    1. Are those the Chinese pears that were talked about in the times a few weeks ago? I bought one in Manhattan for $2.49 a pound! Very good but not worth the $$ much are they in Flushing?

In Flushing they are about $1.65/lb. They sell it in most markets in Flushing. There is one large chinese supermarket on Kissena Blvd. across the street from the library/99 cents store. They are starting to turn up in all Asian markets. Pretty soon everyone should have it. There was an article in the NY Times about it. The grocers have been trying to get them here for quite a while. They are popular in China.

      2. I found the article and pictures - the article talks about pears from Xianjiang though not Tibet.

I was told by elder folks from China. Thye have been eaten there for quite a while. They say its from Tibet.

        2. Are these the same pears we're talking about on the L.A. board?

I think so - the NYT article calls them Fragrant pears.
