Does anyone have any info on Cascade D'Or 1999 Sauterne from Barsac? I have tried finding info on the winery or tasting notes on the web and in books and can't find anything. I have a 750ml bottle I picked up the other day and would like to know a bit about it before I open it. Thanks
Well after several weeks I still can't find any info on this sauterne. I cracked the bottle and it was a decent, but not spectacular wine. A little unfinished tasting, maybe even slightly over the hill. The cork said Chateau Mayne du Hayot 1999 chateau bottled. Was this a low level wine from Chateau Mayne du Hayot that they bottled under a different name?
SCE Vignobles du Hayot is a 67 hectares (168 acres) winery located in 33720 Barsac, France.
Owner: Mme Fabienne DU HAYOT
Tel : 05 56 27 15 37 - Fax : 05 56 27 04 24
E-mail : email@example.com
They make sweet wines under several labels:
CHÂTEAU MAYNE DU HAYOT
CHÂTEAU MATHALIN DU HAYOT
CHÂTEAU ROMER DU HAYOT (2ème cru classé)
CHÂTEAU ANDOYSE DU HAYOT
CHÂTEAU GUITERONDE DU HAYOT
It looks like 1999 was a bad year for the Mayne du Hayot property and they declassified, "Cascade d'Or" being a way to avoid the "Hayot" name in the label.
