Looking for something soup-y in the La Canada/Pasadena/Glendale area

The weather's getting kinda chilly and looking for some delicious soup. Any type of cuisine is welcome: asian, american, mexican, etc. Thanks in advance!

  1. I love the soups at Granville Cafe in Burbank (in the downtown area by the mall). They have 3-4 soups on their regular menu then have a soup of the day. My favorite is the tomato bisque, and the lobster bisque (that one was a soup of the day) comes in at a close second.

The bowls are huge, and the soup is served with french bread. Really warms you up on a cold day. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Another vote for Granville. The split pea soup was wonderful! Thick, rich and delicious. I would prefer ham to the linguica, but even so it was classic comfort food.

    2. I enjoy all the ramen soups at Takeshi Ramen, esp the tonkatsu (pork) broth ramen. I rate it the third best in the entire city. It's across from Cal Pizza kitchen, on Brand near Broadway. See the below posts.

      1. Some of the best soup, not only in Glendale, but in all of So Cal, is at POLKA, the small, wonderful Polish restaurant at Verdugo and York in South Glendale. They only have one choice each day, which is served (along with salad) with your entree. But, Oh My. Their soups are divine. There is a wonderful tomato, an incredible bean and vegetable, and if you happen to go on the day they have their mushroom soup, you just won't want to leave. But I have never had a bad soup there. In fact, I have never had anything but some of the best soup of my life. I brought two out of towners there just the other day and they both felt the bean soup was the best soup they had ever tasted. Give it a try.

        1. war won ton at new moon in montrose, is, in my mind, better than zicam or airborne at warding off coldy/flu-yness. also the chicken tortilla soup at star cafe, i believe, possesses healing properties.

          1. Right in your neck of the woods is the best chicken soup in town. La Cabanita, in Glendale/Montrose, has killer chicken soup. Some of the best chicken soup I've ever had, other than what I've made myself ;-).

            LA Cabanita

            1. Try the minestrone at Scarantino's (formerly Dino's) in Pasadena (I've no idea if the recipe at the Scarantino's in Glendale is the same) - warm, thick, hearty - I crave it during the winter, along with a fresh baked loaf and a good salad.

              1. In addition to the La Cabanita recommendation, Divina Cucina on Verdugo just south of Honolulu makes fantastic soups. If you're ever lucky enough to go on a day when it's yellow bell pepper bisque...

                1. I love the vegetable soup at Dona Maria's on Foothill in La Canada - the perfect warm-me-up, make-me-feel-all-better soup. Also, had Pepe's Albondigas the other day and it was great as well (they are also on Foothill, further west). Lots of veggies and the meatballs are very tasty!

                  1. Greenstreet Restaurant makes a hearty bowl of creamy corn chowder.
