CAN'T FIND ANYTHING CURRENT ON MEGU?
IS IT WORTH A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY DINNER OR SHOULD WE GO TO MORIMOTO?

The last time I was at Megu was for a corporate function - it was pretty good, but then, it was also free and a set menu.

I more recently went with friends to Morimoto and didn't go "all out" but ordered a good variety of stuff. I was expecting NOTHING from this place and I'd say tend to be biased against the Japanese megarestaurant concept. However, I was impressed with the food and not overly annoyed by the scene, even though it was Friday night. Several times service did odd things like try to bring us other tables' food, or try to take our silverware before any food came, but I kind of consider that par for the course with this type of restaurant. If you like this type of food, and you have a big group, I think Morimoto would be a pretty good choice. If you have a REALLY big group (20+) and you can get a set menu (and people are willing to fork over some cash) I can't say from personal experience that Megu won't deliver, either. I also think Megu is less cheesy inside than Morimoto.

I had a similar experience as the last post at Megu. Service was simply inexcusable. The food, overpriced. What we actually did get to eat while waiting for two hours was pretty terrible, aside from the kobe beef. I ate there some time ago, but the bad experience still lingers very clearly in my mind.

Megu? I agree. Service was horrible. Orders were forgotten. Lack of communication between busboys/waiters. Busboys were impatient and kept trying to clear our table despite the fact that we had 4 more dishes coming out. After several attempts, we simply gave up and didnt say anything, allowing them clear it. By the time our food came the waiter noticed we had no utensils. Of course the busboys were annoyed as they set our tables back but we did try! The plus side is our waiter did apologize and took off one of our oysters platter off the bill. Coffee and tea was free. Our bill for four was 600 not including tip but that was because my friends were a bunch of lushes.

Please don't go anywhere near Megu, for your sake. It is terrible. Others may disagree but the menu is a virtual landmine of icky. Haven't tried Morimoto but it can't be worse.
