The Fresh Market in Gainesville: Worth it?
This afternoon, I took a trip to the new Fresh Market on NW23rd Street, and I was impressed with the variety of fresh and prepared foods on display, as well as the produce selection. I was not impressed, however, with the prices. Being an undergraduate student at UF, and not having lots of cash to spend on meals, I'm wondering if anyone in the area has made it by the market yet(it only opened on the 29th)and would be willing to recommend some chow that is worth both the trip and the price. Thanks.
Wow, I live in Naples and can't imagine a college student shopping at Fresh Market, they are SO expensive...sheesh! It's even too expensive for most of us working folks. And the one we have here does not sell Fage yogurt I'm quite sure...what's up with that??? I do go there when I MUST have lamb shoulder cubes for a curry, it's worth the $7.99 per pound when I make it once in a while.
I have doing some of my shopping at the Fresh Market in Tallahassee since they opened a few years ago. They are more expensive, yet offer a few items I can't find elsewhere. I like their flowers, imported cheeses, bulk bins, breads, soups and panini. They also sell my favorite Yogurt, Fage. When I am feeling lazy, I have been known to get an assortment of salads from their deli to take home for dinner.
Too small of a market area for Whole Foods...maybe one day.
Sorry, but it was a big disappointment to me, too. I was lured in by the crab cakes on sale for $1.99 each and they were sold out and offered me "king crab cakes" for $3.49 each, assuring me they were just as good. I bought two and they were terrible.
Some of the food looks very good but the prices are even higher than Whole Foods Markets. I was also shocked at how small the store was.
