Best Indian restaurants in Sherman Oaks area?

We were big fans of Tufaan, which apparently closed recently. Does anyone have other favorites in the Sherman Oaks area?

  1. Clay Oven, on Ventura in Sherman Oaks, is pretty decent.

    1. We have only been there once, but India Cafe was an enjoyable dining experience. Everything is a la carte, and I seem to remember that it seemed slightly overpriced. Even so, we'd go back.

      1. Not Sherman Oaks but SO adjacent in Studio City, Gangadin

        1. Bollywood, in Studio City.

          1. Tufaan on Sepulveda south of Ventura Blvd. is excellent, but last time I tried to go there, it was closed. I hope it hasn't been forced out of business by the endless freeway construction there. Anyone have info on it?

            1. There's a place called Typhoon...

              1. Thanks for the responses. I'm afraid Tufaan is closed. The phone has been disconnected. It may have been hurt by the freeway construction.

Yeah, just drove by Tufaan this afternoon, and the sign in the window is the infamous "kitchen closed for renovation"!!!
                  Say goodnight!

                2. Great India Cafe in Studio City is great. Ventura just west of Laurel Cyn. Try the Lamb Boti Masala and the Saag Paneer, and don't forget the mango lassi. Yum!

                  1. So I'm a Brit and love my curry. I can confirm that there is not one Indian restaurant in the NoHo, Studio City, Sherman Oaks area that remotely conforms to my idea of even a passable Indian meal, and believe me I've tried them all! That includes all the imposters listed above serving up pale imitation inedible slop.

If anyone finds anything even half-way decent, can they post details?

                    1. Taste of India on Ventura:

Some of the best Indian food I've ever had.

                      Also, Passage to India:
                      14062 Burbank Blvd. Sherman Oaks.

The hottest Indian food I've ever had (if that's your cup of tea).

Also, if you want to venture over to Encino, try Taj Mahal, also on Ventura.
