Me and two dining companions had another great meal at Antico Forno on Salem St in the North End last night. The North End was surprisingly quiet for a Thursday night in the holiday season so we were able to just walk in and get a table easily.

We started by ordering a pizza and one order of the Eggplant Rollatini. The pizza we chose was the Vesuvio which had fresh mozzarella, ricotta, roasted peppers and tomatos. It was also supposed to have prosciutto on it but one of us is a vegetarian so we told them to leave it off. The pizza was excellent. The crust was perfectly cooked and the toppings were excellent. It had an almost creamy texture that I think would have even been better with the prosciutto on it. The Eggplant Rolatini was served piping hot in a small baking dish. There were three rolls which made sharing it easy. The eggplant was not greasy and had a soft creamy texture and when combined with the ricotta and a nice marinara sauce tasted great.

Two of us choose the Linguine Frutta di Mare for our main course. My other DC choose one of the specials of the evening which was a pumpkin gnocchi in a sage cream sauce. The linguine was a mixture of mussels, calamari, shrimp and clams tossed with perfectly cooked pasta in a somewhat spicy marinara sauce and then baked in parchment paper in their brick oven. When the packages were openned at the table the aroma of the seafood combined with the marinara sauce was fantastic. None of the seafood or the pasta was over cooked.

The pumpkin gnocchi was also excellent. This was served in a small baking dish too. The gnocchi tasted like they had been freshly made and had a mild pumkin taste which went very well with the sage cream sauce.

We had a nice bottle Montalcino wine ($40.00)along with dinner and then opted to walk to Modern Pastry for cannolis and coffee.

I have always liked Antico Forno and last night's dinner confirmed that they are still turning out great food.
