good 'new american' in bergen county?

bob gaj Dec 8, 2006 12:08 AM

i'll be back in northern nj tomorrow evening and want to take my parents out for dinner. i may take them to a steakhouse (ie. river palms or morton's) or the chinese place on route 46. however, if neither of those capture their attention, is there a really good 'new american' place in bergen county near paramus?

well, you could try Cafe Panache in Ramsey if you can get a reservation. If you are going to do steak, I would do River Palm before Mortons. There are also a few places in Ridgewood that have been talked about here - you can do a search.

thanks for the suggestion. we were thinking about river palm, and then veered and actually went to south city grill (rochelle park).

i've seen other reviews on here, and would generally second the favorable ones. we had lobster spring roll appetizer, a grilled swordfish, ahi tuna w/ sobe spicy noodles, and kobe burger. all were cooked exactly according to specs, and service was timely and not overbearing.

the caveat: we made 530 reservations on friday. when we first went in, there were 1, maybe 2 other tables? and loud ambient dance music was playing (loud for a restaurant). when we were getting ready to leave around 630, 7? i forget which - the bar was completely packed, and most of the tables were full.

so for people who want a quieter evening out, i would NOT recommend it. but since it's fine with me, i had no problems, and the food was quite good.
