Solano Beach Recs

Any recs for Solano beach, nothing too expensive but prefer a nice sit down restaraunt. How is the food at the place at the Belly Up bar?

Thanks in advance

  1. Its not a nice sit down restaurant, but the pizza place is great. Top notch pizza, and fantastic, flavorful housemade beer. But I'm not familiar with any of the other restaurants.
Who are you going to see?

    1. If you want to go 5 min. up the road, to Encinitas, one of my favorite Italian restaurants Tratoria I Trulli is a great place for dinner. If you like duck, the duck and goat cheese warm salad with pine nuts is outstanding. They don't take reservations on the weekend, so there can be a bit of a wait, but the food is worth it. Another good one just across the street from I Trulli is Meritage, they have a bit more of a California coastal cuisine style, and do take reservations. The lobster bisque is the best I've had (though it's spicy!).

Concert is an Aimee Mann christmas show. I am leaning toward Pacific Coast Grill. Any thoughts?

Pacific Coast Grill is "ok" food but tends to be overpriced for what they put out.

One freeway exit south of Lomas Santa Fe is Market Bar and Restaurant. You'll get higher quality food and creativity for about the same price point at Pacific Coast Grill.

Beach Grass Cafe in Solana Beach is pretty good and cheaper than both of the above places. Casual place for pizzas, salads, pastas.

        1. I've been happy with the Pacific Coast Grill. It's a fun atmosphere and the food is good. The apple smoked pork ribs stand out in my memory as being particularly delicious. That would be a good choice before the show, and a little closer than Encinitas.

Pacific Coast Grill is a bargain before 7 pm with half price dinners, 40% off appetizers, and discounts on wine. Beach Grass Cafe a few blocks north is also quite good for dinner. The restaurant at BellyUp has the same owner as Pacific Coast Grill, and is also good.

          2. I second the recommendation on Beach Grass and iTrulli. If you are looking for really inexpensive but fresh you may want to check out The Fish House in a strip mall just at the intersection of Rios & Lomas Santa Fe.
