Dropped by this place earlier today. Just to be clear, they have both boiled dogs, and grilled dogs (on their foreman griddle haha), depending on the size of the dog. It specifies on the menu which way it'll be prepared.
I am going to say as it stands, this is the best hot dog place in LA that I've been to. I've been to Pinks, Tommy's, and Oki Dog, and I think this is better.
It IS a touch more expensive than I'd like to spend, but imagine the neatness of Oki Dog + the toppings of Pinks. Well, maybe not that overwhelming, but god, so GOOD.
Had both the Chicago dog and the la hot dog. Both were fantastic. Chili was good, not as good as Oki Dog, better than Pink's/Tommy's. Will go here again.

Pinks, Tommys and Oki Dog? That's not much of a list, in my opinion. I think Skoobies on Hollywood Blvd. has a really good dog, great french fries and lemonade.
Pinks was never as good as people think it was, Tommy's is a burger place and the Oki Dog on SM Blvd. was great in the 80s, but is sadly gone. The one on Pico doesn't quite measure up and I would never eat at the one on Fairfax. The great thing about Oki Dog was the atmosphere of Punk Rockers, Runaways and Hustlers all hanging out at 2am and eating dinner for $2 (Oki Dog and a Coke).

I'm having pangs of guilt. My tastes are my own and certainly not definitive. If any of you were curious, I'd suggest you'd head out to Weeneez and have a taste at least once. I've been reading the thread on best chili dogs and some of the mentions I've read I wouldn't suggest. I've had the chili at some of the suggested places and I didn't care for the chili. What's that? Innocent until proven guilty. Don't go by my hearsay. Thanks!

Yup -- goto www.weeneez.com
It's ok. A bit expensive. Love the fact that they have chili Fritos, however.

Good snap, natural casing, steamed (not grilled), so overall a solid hotdog, but nothing to go out of the way for unless you are in the Historic Core area.
I'm by no means a hotdog expert so take it for what it's worth (probably not much). My fave is still probably the Stand ...

re: onedrummer
I react the same way as Ipsedixit to a menu dominated by hot dogs. Have to remind myself that most of the cost of the dog here is the overhead, not the 'meat' or the prep.
I'm not enough of a dog fan to travel downtown just for one. Still, only two blocks from Pershing Square station - must add to the Chow Red Line topic. Great for locals though.Give me a great German sausage anyday!
