Order only from the specials menu at Hasaki and you will not be disppointed. The every day sushi has gone downhill there, and the chef selection sushi is good but gone way up in price. Cooked dishes and salads, IMO, are their strong suit. From the regular menu kinuta hamachi and chawan mushi are very good.
If by Japanese you mean non-sushi as well I am a fan of Soba-ya on the same block for soba soup and a range of other delicious food, moderate price.
