indian market in san diego?
I recommend Balboa International Market for Persian groceries. It is on Balboa just east of the intersection with Genesee behind the Washington Mutual bank. They have all of your Persian grocery needs and some Indian products as well. There is also a Persian pastry shop a few doors down.
Balboa International Market and Parsian have a comparable selection of groceries. Parsian's big strength is its fresh baked bread (sangak), but Balboa International Market has a larger selection of meat. (Parsian may not have any meat selection at all - I can't remember.) For whatever reason, I gravitate toward Balboa International Market.
I second the recommendation for International Market and Grill if you are looking for take out Persian food - it is better than what you can get at Parsian or Balboa International Market. They have basic Persian groceries, but the selection is limited.
There's a Persian market in La Jolla called International Market and Grill. Its really small though. Pretty much only sells dried good and has a couple fridges for meat and prepared food. They have excellent take out though, its one of the few places that I actually like to eat at around La Jolla.
There's a complex on Black Mtn. Road just north of Miramar that has at least three different Indian Markets, including Ker's. It's in the same shopping center as Ashoka the OK, er, Great.
The Persian market/grill on Convoy is called Parsian, in the old McDonald's across from Home Depot Expo.
North Park Produce (on El Cajon Blvd. near 35th) also has a lot of Persian and Indian products.
I direct you to Kirk K's blog, and this particular entry:
Ker's caught my eye a while back, though I've yet to make it up there:
I'd recommend putting his blog in your favourites. He's a wealth of "food info"!
India Sweets and Spices on Clairemont Mesa Dr, near the 805 freeway. There are a number of Indian markets around Black Mountain Rd, near the 15 freeway.
I think there is a Persian market on Convoy, south of Balboa. Can't remember the name of it but it's on the west side of the street, before you get to The Original Pancake House strip mall.
